Description
A small dog with a body that's slightly longer than its tail, a Shih Tzu has large low-set pendant ears that hang down and are covered in a lot of hair. Its double coat is thick and long and flows down over the body. The hair above the eyes is often tied in a pigtail. This breed has traditionally been a favourite with Chinese royals.
Characteristics
Alert, active and happy, the Shih Tzu likes to be with people and is mostly good with other animals. It can be difficult to house-train.
Health problems
This breed tends to wheeze and snore and can have respiratory problems. It can gain weight easily and should not be overfed.
Exercise
A daily walk or regular play is enough to keep a Shih Tzu fit and healthy.
Grooming
This little dog needs daily brushing. This breeds sheds little or no hair.
Living Environment
This dog is suited for apartment living due to their size and low exercise requirements.
