Description
The Belgian Sheepdog has lots of muscles, tight skin, a feathered tail, cat-like feet and a fairly long weather-resistant coat with a mane of fur around the neck. The coat is usually black.
Characteristics
Bright, obedient, alert and loyal, the Belgian Sheepdog needs to feel like it's a part of the family.
Health Problems
Like all breeds, Belgian Shepherds are susceptible to certain health problems. Some of the common health issues seen in this breed include Hip and Elbow dysplasia, eye problems, bloat and cancer.
To help prevent health problems, it's important to feed your Belgian Shepherd a healthy diet, provide regular exercise and mental stimulation, and schedule regular veterinary check-ups.
Exercise
This high-energy dog breed needs regular exercise to stay healthy and happy. They need at least 1-2 hours of exercise per day, broken up into several shorter sessions. These might include long walks or hikes, running or jogging, agility training, obedience training, and playing fetch or other games. A lack of exercise can lead to health problems and destructive behavior.
Grooming
Belgian Shepherds have a thick, double coat that requires regular grooming to prevent matting and tangling. They also shed heavily twice a year, so regular brushing is essential to keep their coat healthy.
Living Enviroment
Belgian Shepherds are not generally well-suited to apartment living. They can be pretty vocal and bark a lot, which might not go over well in an apartment where noise is a problem. They need a secure yard or outdoor space to play and run around in.
