Description
Most characterised by its spots, the Dalmatian has a predominantly white coat with clearly defined round spots that can come in a range of colours but mostly black or liver. Puppies are born totally white and gain their spots as they get older. The Dalmatian has had a very varied past, including firemen mascot, circus performer and war sentinel.
Characteristics
A Dalmatian has a lot of energy and stamina so it's best suited with an energetic family. It is playful, easy-going and good with children.
Health problems
This breed is prone to deafness, urinary stones and skin allergies.
Exercise
The Dalmatian has enormous stamina and needs to be taken on at least daily walks. It loves to run and will become destructive without enough mental and physical stimulation.
Grooming
Brush the coat frequently to manage this breed's constant shedding.
Living conditions
Ideally this dog needs a lot of room to run around so an apartment is not suitable unless it can get outside several times a day. It doesn't like the cold.
