Description
The Kerry Blue Terrier has a soft and dense coat that comes in various shades between black and very dark blue. The tail is high-set and the neck is long. It is believe that Kerry Blue Terriers descended from Irish Wolfhounds, Irish Terriers, and possibly some other breeds when they originated in County Kerry, Ireland.
Characteristics
Animated, playful, affectionate and alert, the Kerry Blue is a good watchdog and likes mucking around with humans but won't attack unless really provoked. This breed gets on with strangers and kids, and rarely bark.
Health Problems
This breed is usually very healthy and long-lived although can be prone to ear infections.
Exercise
As a high-energy breed, Kerry Blue Terriers require daily exercise. Ideally, they should get at least one hour of exercise per day, which can be broken down into shorter sessions throughout the day.
Grooming
This breed is hypoallergenic as it sheds little to no hair. It's still important to maintain their coat with a groom every six weeks, including pulling the hair out of their ear canals to prevent ear infections.
Living Environment
Apartment life is fine if they get enough exercise.
