Description
The Papillon (also known as the Continental Toy Spaniel or 'butterfly dog') has ears with long hair on them and a long straight single coat that comes in white with patches. The ears look a lot like butterfly wings.
Characteristics
Friendly, smart, funny and charming, the Papillon is good with cats when socialised with them. It is generally easy to train but can be hard to house-train and could bark a lot.
Health problems
This breed can be prone to knee problems that can be corrected on its own but sometimes requires surgery.
Exercise
A daily walk or play off the leash is enough exercise.
Grooming
Brush the coat every day to keep it looking glossy. This breed is an average shedder.
Living Environment
This breed is fine in the city but can bark a lot so may not be suitable for apartments or close living.

This breed is featured a lot in 13-15th century Italian paintings during the Renaissance.
