Description
The Whippet is a medium-sized hound with a long tapering tail, short smooth coat that comes in lots of different colours, and small folded rose ears that are held back but perk up when it gets excited.
Characteristics
Smart, lively, loving, docile and clean, the Whippet is quiet and calm in the home and easy to care for. Do not roughly train this breed because it is very sensitive. It will chase other animals but is generally good with other dogs.
Health problems
This breed is prone to stomach upset and skin problems.
Exercise
The Whippet should regularly run around outside. A fenced yard is essential.
Grooming
This dog doesn't smell. The smooth coat is easy to groom: simply regularly rub it all over with a damp cloth to keep it shiny. This breed is an average shedder.
Living Environment
This dog should wear a coat in winter because it feels the cold. It is calm indoors so a small yard will do; apartment living is suitable.
Did You Know
The Whippet's name comes from the expression "whip it" which means "to move quickly." This breed is an excellent track racer.
