Description

The Wire Fox Terrier has striking dark eyes with a medium sized build. Their dense, wiry coat is unlike any other, with hairs that resemble those found on a coconut's exterior, making it almost impossible to see their skin when parted. This breed's coat is typically white, marked with black or brown spots, adding to their unique appearance.

Characteristics

Don't let their looks fool you, Wire Fox Terriers are a bundle of energy, bursting with cheerfulness, affection, and enthusiasm. They make excellent family pets but come with a warning, their strong hunting instincts can lead to fatal consequences for smaller non-canine animals like birds and rabbits. This smart breed is quick to learn tricks and requires a high level of stimulation to keep them entertained.

Health Issues

Health issues are a real concern for Wire Fox Terriers, with epilepsy being a prevalent condition in this breed. Other problems that they may encounter include post-nasal drip, lens luxation, distichiasis, cataracts, Legg-Perthes disease, shoulder dislocation, and mast cell tumors. Regular visits to the vet are a must to keep this furry friend healthy.

Exercise

To keep this breed happy, regular exercise is essential. A daily walk or jog can do wonders for their physical and mental health, but be mindful of their strong hunting instincts around smaller animals.

Grooming

Grooming is not an issue with this breed, requiring minimal upkeep, regular brushing, and an occasional bath will keep their short coat looking its best. The Wire Fox Terrier is also known for shedding very little, making them an excellent choice for allergy sufferers.

Living Environment

An ideal home for a Wire Fox Terrier would have a securely fenced yard where the dog can play and explore. It should also have plenty of indoor space for the dog to move around and play, and it should be clean and safe.
When living in an apartment, a Wire Fox Terrier won't have a fenced yard to play in, so they'll have to rely on daily walks or dog parks to keep fit. As Wire Fox Terriers can be vocal and bark at perceived threats, living close to other residents may pose a challenge.
